a whisper in the order of things

A meditative duet that explores the constantly changing, interweaving and constantly becoming relationship between human and nature. In the piece we map our relationship to one another, uncovering how we are a part of each other and our environment. We explore the body’s extremities and liminalities, vulnerability and future. We come together and fall apart, but the contact stays. The piece invites the audience to reflect on their own bodies and their relationship with nature and other people.

Review

“The avant-garde breath of Marriott’s music fills this intense little dark stage with a trumpet’s fullness. In the background, a clump of human flesh barely stands out from the darkness. Little by little, that vision is structured into small vibrations of movement, then, on the stage horizon we begin to see a symbiotic ensemble of two intertwined human bodies, slowly transforming into a rotating ball approaching the viewers. Finally, the lighting separates two separate human figures who, in turn, only  separate from parts of the body from each other,  for a moment, only to return back together again. Touch and touching, moved by a magical power, seem to move this work. Only a few times do the performers give each other eye contact or moment of escape from one another, only to re-entwine back into a warm knot that holds a common touch - to finally get back into that dark horizon universe as an eternally closed and shared world between two beings. The performance is characterized by extreme concentration, which also captivates the viewer in awe to imagine and find a similar common peace and closeness to other people that holds and secures in a world filled with all kinds of trumpets, noise and hustle and bustle.”
