Main prize at Kangasala Film Festival short film competition
“Through a personal story, FUR FUR creates an opening for the viewer to delve into the meaning of memory and memories. The film's strong visual narration takes the viewer into the main character's inner world, offering an opportunity to identify with the conflicting experiences of a person living between two worlds. The film's strong message about family and the necessity and on the other hand also the pain of breaking away from the past is familiar to everyone. Through a universal experience, the film reminds us of the similarity of humanity and the contradictions of life. We need stories that increase understanding of each other and ourselves, this film offers that opportunity.”

Moving People and Images award at Helsinki International Film Festival - Love & Anarchy
“Intimate and personal, the film tells a beautiful little story of love between family members and holding on to memories. The jury hopes that this award will encourage the filmmaker to strengthen his voice, as we see a lot of potential in him.”

Best Cinematography award at Short Focus Film Festival
“In a dreamlike forest, a man conjures up the memory of his late parents, chasing joyful moments now permanently out of reach, as he copes with his grief.
Without leaning into the tragedy, Fur Fur gives a pastel tint to the melancholy of trying to reach a long-gone happiness, while the image remains as sharp as his main character’s pain. The brilliance of Kardo Shiwan’s writing and directing is as beautiful and reassuring as it is heartbreaking.
The film resonated powerfully with us, proving the medium of short film to be a potentcatalyst for thought, discussion, and escapism. It was a true honour to screen your work as part of our festival, and these awards are a modest token of our gratitude for your incredible contributions to the world of cinema”

Outsider Art Festival - Official Selection
“FUR FUR is an atmospheric study of roots and family and the fusion of two cultures. Philosophical and reflective, the film zooms into a surprising little element – hair – and uses it to explore big themes. The film succeeds in conveying the author’s strong relationship with Finnish nature.”
